Before proceeding with these tests, ensure you've completed the tracking script installation. Once that is completed, follow these steps to ensure your referral tracking is working properly.
First, open a new incognito/private browser to ensure all cache and cookies are clear for your test.
Note: be sure to close your incognito window and open a new one for each additional test you do.
Then go to your online store with our query string parameter "rstr" to verify the link tracking is working.
You can get a real referral ID from a contact in your Roster portal and use that to load your online store web page.
Reload that contact's profile in Roster to verify the "Link Clicks" stats counted your test. (see image above)
For each of the following steps you can check the stats in your dashboard and navigate to the Sales Attribution report to verify referral link and discount code usage are being tracked properly. Also the Orders and Referred Orders reports are useful to ensure the tracking script is working properly.
Next, submit a test order to verify that the order data was successfully sent and associated by referral Id.
Ensure that the referring ambassador is approved into a program before the test order is created. Otherwise the referral won't be attributed.
Keep in mind that if you submit an order where the purchaser's email address matches another ambassador profile, then it will be attributed as a "personal order" and not as a referred order. Best to test a new customer purchase with an email that isn't associated with a contact profile already in your Roster account.
Note: the attribution usually is processed within less than a minute of the order submission. However, depending on system load, please allow some time for the system to process the order and set it as a referred order.
Next, submit a test order using a discount code to verify that the order data was successfully sent and associated by discount code usage.
Be sure to use a "sharable" discount code to ensure the order isn't flagged as a "personal order".
